Default power steering help

1) I have heard to use automatic transmission fluid (some have said thats what they use) why would you not use power steering fluid?
2) How do you add fluid to the 68? Remove dipstick and fill? I can't find any other fill spot!

Thanks in advance
Steve

Use power steering fluid. In a pinch, you could use trans fluid, but I don't believe this the case here.

Yes, fill the pump/reservoir (it's an integral unit) until the dipstick reads "full". The dipstick point is the fill point, use a funnel. This should be done on a warmed up car after you've turned the steering lock to lock a few times to cycle the fluid and remove any trapped airfrom the system.

The '66 ford shop manual says ATF, pg 21-1.

I asked this same question a couple of weeks back and found out that the ATF is a little thicker and works better with the pump. I would put in ATF if you are just doing maintainance... Check your dip stick to see if you have clear or red fluid. If its red, then definately go with the ATF because you probably dont want to be mixining the two fluids. I rebuilt my p/s ram so I drained everything out before filling with power steering fluid.. Just check to be sure.. if its clear go with the p/s fluid.. of course its my own opinion..
