Default Bushings

I need to replace the bushings on my leaf springs, any thing I should be aware of before I take them apart?

Thanks,

Fred

The fronts, rears, or both?

The front's are pressed in, so they are alittle more difficult. The rears can be placed in by hand, but if the current ones might fight you if they are original...

On the front I have replaced all of them except on the struts, my question was actually directed to replacing the bushings on the leaf springs. Anything I should be aware of on the struts too?

Thanks,

Fred

Fred,

I believe he was trying to tell you that the leaf spring front bushings will have to be pressed out and the rear bushings should come out by hand (sort of).

Consider this. If the bushings have deteriorated to the point that they need to be replaced, you're probably looking at some old leaf springs that have lost som eof their "spring". You might be better off just changing out the whole leaf spring instead of just the bushings.

Ford didn't design these cars to last for 40+ years, nevermind on the original leaf springs.

Yes, thats what I was saying.

Since new leafsprings already have the bushings pressed in, you might aswell get new ones than paying someone to change your bushings, and then still have old springs. It was 40$ to press my set of axles bearings on, for reference

I agree. If you're going to all that trouble and spending money on bushings already, you might as well pick up a set of new leaf springs. OE springs aren't terribly expensive.

You should be aware of the fact that the front leaf spring bolts can be a nightmare to get out. Have a schitload of sawzall blades ready just in case and hope for the best.

And buy new springs.
