Default Need help please.

After much debating and waiting I have decided to go and look for some rims tomorrow morning. I have a couple of questions. My car is currently drums all around I upgraded from 4 lug to 5 lug, the front are off a 66 coupe mine is a 65. I already replaced all of the tiebars, idle arm and the other stuff need (don't remember the names). I want to upgrade to disk hopefully in the future will the backspacing change once I do the conversion? On the back it is off a maverick so it is 2 inches shorter I am going to keep them drums. Another question right now it has the 6 cyl. When I happen to install a 5.0 will the height change. Trying to figure out what I should keep in mind. I am thinking of going with 17x7 in front and I wanted to try and fit some 17x9 or 17x10 in the back since my rearend is shorter and I am thinking of going with something where I can get custom backspacing to fit them. Or what do you think about some 17x7 upfront and some 18x9 in the back. I was also thinking of going with 18 and 20's on back, but I think that will be to much. I want it to be level. I am planning on(want to) getting something with a big lip on the back. I decide to go and get them since it will take some time to come in and I am figureing they come back sometime around my b-day. I was going to order them last year but I didn't want to wait 3 months. dumb huh, so I decided to go and start the 3 months waiting. The best part is that I have my wife telling mind go and order them, yeah she is not the one paying the creditcards.[:@] So let me hear it, please. What do you think?

After much tought I ended up with the conclusion that disk and drum should be the same backspacing I hope I'm right. They called in and gave the clear to run 17x8 up front and 18x8.5 on the back. They told me if they didn't fit that they would change them as long as they didn't mount any tires on the wheels. I got a 4.5 backspacing in the front and I got a 4in backspacing in the back. I am going to go with 235/45r-17 up front and 275/40r-18 on back. It ended up being a little more expensive than what I was hoping to spend. I got some foose nitrous chrome, I was debating on those or some boyds. A new style called espada but these where to expensive. They should arrive thursday. What do you think did I choose right? I had the foose Nitrous on my 06 charger. I HATE THEM. THEY LOOK GREAT BUT I CANNOT GET THEM TO BALANCE. I EVEN SWAPPED OUT THE TIRES AND NO LUCK.

Thankfully my wife came out in December to go to work and the car was on jack stands and the wheels and tires were gone. It sucked, but i replaced them with KMC SS wheels. the KMC"s look cheaper but they balance fine and the car rides smooth. The Boyds would have been a better choice. However the nitrous look just as sweet.

I put 17x8's all the way around on my 66. 18s will fit i have a mile of room. dont think a 20 would fit though. I wanna ride low.

watch that machined lip on the foose. anything touches them and you will have a booger. they are very soft.

idk if your gonna get 1 10 inch rim in the back of a 65-66 even if the rear is shorter. i flaired my rear and front fenders and with the 1 1/2 inch flair im supposed to be able to run a 10 1/2 inch rear tire

I'd rather spend the money on the disc upgrade then a set of flashy wheels (those Nitrous wheels are Torque Thrust knockoffs anyway, why not get the real thing?). Not to mention, 17" wheels look freaking huge on a 65-66, and you're not getting a 10" wide wheel in there without some wheel well alterations.

The "Nitrous" rims without the dots will look great, especially on a dark car. Be careful on the size as it may look goofy on a 5 or 6 unless you re-radius the openings (which I like).

Thanks guys. I actually wanted 17x7 up front but they told me that they didn't make them or they didn't have the right backspacing for me. So I had to go with 17x8. What are the differences you talk about when you say handling,"this will help with turning and handling?" I'm I going to have to give a bigger turn for them not to hit on something? And handling is it a harder ride don't understang.(sorry just got out of work and I have only slept 4 hours the past 24 hours). Could you explain it some more.
Mortman, which wheels are they can't find them?
MonsterB, Why weren't the tires able to balance did they let you know a reason? I had seen the KMC SS before but they weren't available for my car. You say you have 17x8 all around how is you drive? they say something about handling and turning. Are you having a problems? I also want a low ride look(not lowrider). I had thought about 20 in the back but after thinking and seeing the prices they were out of the question.
rmodel65, yeah unfurtantly 10s won't fit they told me "no". They should me the tire that they are going to put on the back at it is wide. I actually didn't know how wide a 10 tire was going to be that is some crazy tire. I like it but I guess not for my car. I am happy with 8.5 in the back would of liked maybe a 9 but they said it would have to be a custom backspace($) and it would be pushing it.
Starfury, I would of also liked the disk upgrade first but since my wife had agreed with me spending the money on rims.it is easier to convince here later on of "investing" about $900 for disk brakes. I'm sure I could of gotten the brakes but later on it would be harder to convince here to let me buy rims. I don't know if I made sense. This is what is going to happen later on, for the brakes. Have it planned out. Once the rims are on I will tell here that I noticed that it takes longer for the car to stop since it has bigger wheels and it is dangerous. Honey"You don't want me to crash if a car all of a sudden stops in front of me right?" her response "no". "okay then i'm going to have to order some disk brakes for the car since we invested alot of money on her and we need to take care of her right? About the original tt, I like them but I want to go a different route with my car I want something that makes it different than the other.
67 evil, love your car. I'm still tring to see which rims are those but can't find them. I actually like the dots. How do you re-radius the openings never heard of that before. Here is a pic of my car it's not to dark(except the tint). At the last moment I was going to go with the tt stylem but I couldn't get a bigger lip for the back. They were going to be 17x8 all around. Liked those since I first saw them.
