Complete Cowl replacement
Has anyone done a complete cowl replacement? I started to drill out the spot welds to take the cover off and patch the hat area and found the outside of the coveron the drivers side to be completely shot. I am now looking at buying the complete assembly. It really doesn't look like that much more work considering I have to drill out the spot welds anyway. Does anyone have experience with this? Is it that much more work? I know I will have to support the car in the middle when I do this.
Thanks, Jeff
Use the search function you'll find a lot of good posts on this. i did mine is a 1970 - little different but concepts the same. Hardest part is getting out all the spot welds. Attached an article to get you started. good luck

I did mine too. I found it to be easier than floor pan replacement just because you can do all the work on your feet, for the most part. The article is where I got my info from. I also found the replacement cowl assembly, which came from NPD, a dynacorn replacement part, fit like a glove, perfect. Mine came in separate pieces. I did primer and paint the inside of the cowl, once it is welded together, there is no future access.
I did an entire replacement and re-used my old cowl and then welded up the vent's to prevent further leakage (i hope). I personally thought this was the hardest part to do on the car and I've replaced like 45% of the metal on my car:S Maybe not hard, but it takes a good deal of time and putting it back in... Wasn't to fun doing 200-300 spot welds.
