Default engine build suggestions

ok heres the deal i currently have a mild 302 with roughly 300-325 hp in my 69' im looking for opinions on what engine i should assemble to get a solid and reliable 400-450 hp ive been toying with a few ideas i was thinking maybe a 351-C cause i know a guy with a 71 mach just sitting and rotting away, or maybe something bigger the F-350 dually we use for sanding at work will be decomissioned soon maybe harvesting the 460 would be an option, the engine would need to be streetable and run on 91 octane the car isnt a daily driver it is for cruising, show, and the occasional stoplight run (main compitition would be my buddies cutlass with a 455), also if possible give your opinions on transmissions as well as the C4 i have now will probably be accompanying the old 302 as it is swapped into my starion, and please dont confine suggestions to the engines mentioned above im open to anything at this point, thank you i appreciate any and all input you can give[sm=pcwhack.gif]

Use a 351 Windsor and stroke it to a 408.

That would work, or you could buy a 302 roller block and stroke it to a 347. With some decent heads, you can easily get 425 HP out of them, and they are a lot lighter than a big block or Cleveland.

Honestly I wouldn't go above a 351. Trying to work around a 390 or higher is a pain in the ***. Get a 351 and just make it extreme

i suppose i could get my hands on one easy enough my buddy has a worn out fox he is trying to get rid of, the reason i mentioned the other engines is i could get them both relatively easy, i was kinda favoring the cleveland cause i wouldnt need to do a whole lot of head work for them to flow well, does anyone know the weight difference between the engines 302 verse 351, 429/460 verse 351-C? then theres always that third option where i keep the stang the same and build an open engined hot rod

347. You build a good 408 and you can make 500hp. A 347 can easily make 400-450 at the flywheel, and a well built 347 can make 400rwhp.

my mistake i forgot to specify that i was looking for 400-450hp to the wheels not measured at the flywheel
