Do i paint my new gas tank?
I am ready to install it. i live in AZ and it will not see a wet street. the tank looks to be galvanized. the old tank ws not painted and looks to be in decent shape except for the junk inside and all the raod grime.
So should i paint it or just stick it in? What about a rattle can of clear coat?
Do i use gasket sealer around the guage access or just the gasket?

yeah there is these sealant strips that these vendors sell. I don't think you have to paint it, depends on what look you like. And I suppose you could just clear coat the metal to preserve it
i left mine raw, like factory iirc
as for the sending unit seal just do it dry.
like stated above you need to get something to sela the tank to trunk. i sealed mine inbetween the body and tank, and did the top of the tank to body since it will not be seen with the trunk mat inside later

I used undercoating on mine because I will probably do the rest of the undercarriage later, thought it might add a little protection from road debris, I found a roll of window caulk at the zone for about eight bucks which is about half the price the vendors get for the 3m stuff, can't see the diff myself. I used grade 8 bolts with locks instead of the sheet metal screws, may be overkill but it can't hurt IMHO.
I just put in my new tank last Friday.
On the advice of several here, what I did was clean mine with break clean, then gave it a coat of primer and used rattle can black, used "semi-flat".
Mine turned into a "most of the day" sort of job but that was because while I had the tank out I got the wire brush out and cleaned up a bunch of road grime and other crap off the parts of the car that would be hard to get at with the tank in. Then I painted the parts I cleaned with a good rust resistant paint.
I didn't use anything other than the gasket for the sending unit.
I did put some pipe dope type sealer around the lip where the tank conects to the trunk floor.
