Default Aligning windows 69 AGHRRRRRR!!!

´69 windows are frameless, and glued in. ´68 are framed and ´70 are bolted (door glass). A proper restoration is to get the old glue out of the track (instead of laying a new bead on top of the old one), or the window will stop too high.

My pass window has just a bit too much glue, and I´m not taking it out and doing it again. This is a difficult job.

1. Can the "stop" be lowered somehow so the door windows don´t roll up so high? Like, ¼ in? I´m almost hitting the roof drip moulding. Not good.

2. Where are the alignment screws for the door windows? I can´t get mine to lean in (negetive camber if it were a wheel).

3. The lil´ quarter window is such a pain. How do I adjust this. It leans IN too much (pos camber needed)

4. Does anyone know if there´s an aftermarket source for the nylon glides for the actuator arms to attach to the glide rods? the old glides cause the glass to be a bit loose. I´ve never seen a vendor carry these.

I was going to wait for this site to go vB and check search for threads on this, but that might be forever. Forgive me if this has been asked to death, but, can anybody help? I sometimes fantasize about ripping all the glass and regulators out and installing ´70 electric windows. The lil´ dream bubble bursts as soon as I realize that this stuff costs money.

Thanks for any replies.

Oh man did I have a pain with my door windows. Mine were torn off and re-glued so many times that my dad and I took them off, cleaned it up and re-urethaned them. What we did was use a torch to heat up the metal part where it is glued in and slowly got the things off the windows. After that I cleaned it up and we put new urethane and put the metal things back on. The main trick was trying to get them to stay straight when they glued, because they can tilt back and forth. In the end of it all they are not perfect, but after some alignment they are good enough to not cause any problems. There is only like a slight mis-alignment. I suggest this process if it really is a problem, even though it is a PITA and the glue takes like 4 days to dry fully. I can get some pics of the process if you would like

Thanks, 4re. My main concern is with finding the stops and alignment screws, though.

Hey, we joined this forum 2 years apart. Weird.

haha that is very weird. What stops and alignment screws? there are two adjustable stops on each side with just 1 bolt going through it. And for alignment screws... all I've seen are the bolts holding the "scissor" in the door. There is one main screw that adjusts the tilt on it, and then when you adjust the tracks that takes care of the in and out. What other screws are you looking for?

and as for the stops I'm sure a vendor carry's them, and if not it shouldn't be too hard to fab up some of your own that would work.

Yeah that´s right. But these screws are not slotted, so there´s no adjustment possible. (any pix?)

You mean the glides? I´ve never seen them, I´ve been looking for 17 years.
Thanks!

On the bottom of the door (under the door) there are two bolts that bolt upinto the bar that the window track slides up and down. If you loosen the bolt from the bottom you can roll your window up and pull or push the bar back and forth to change the angle that the window sits at. The stops are small bolts on the face of the door, you can loosen them and move the stop down a bit if needed. At the top of the slide bar in the door there is also another bolt that allows you to adjust the window forward and back, just loosen it and push it forward or back to get it right and tighten it up.. Check the window's rolling action and adjust again as needed. If you just spend a little time trying to figure out what all the components in the door are bolted to you will figure out the adjustments. I think someone said there are about 9 adjustments you can make.

Good luck.

Also, when glueing in the window tracks, I used a wire wheel to clean out all the old stuff and some 3m window weld from autozone. I cut a peice of garden hose in half and useda flat peice on each side to center the windown in the track and then glued the track. It took a little while, but worked well. however I did have to widen the hole in the side of the door to get the window back in.. Im sure I could have managed to get it in without doing that, but after half an hour the drill was just too easy to use.

Very cool stuff guys, thanks.

Any word on the rear quarter window? I suppose if I take out the back seat and the inner panel, I will find something just poking around, but I haven't seen it yet.

I think that the quarter is adjusted the same as the door, you loosen the bolt holding the slide rail down and then pull/push/move it around to get the correct angle on the window. You will have to look at it.I think there are only 3 screws holding that pannel on in front of the window regulator, that and the window handle.

Give me a bit to pull up the adjustment procedure from the manual. We've had to completely readjust our drivers window at least 4 times now. I've even had it taken to a guy who worked for ford in the 60's and 70's and he's told me, they used to keep a spare set of the glue in windows in the shop, when someone came in with bad windows, they took them out, put in the ones they already had and sent them on their way, then reglued in the ones they just took out and waited for the next guy.

Anyway, I know how you feel, the adjustment is a complicated process, but it works once you get the window glued in the tracks properly.
