I am wondering, on the 1965 170, which I believe has red air cleaner and valve cover, and also on the 200, which I believe had blue air cleaner and valve cover, what is the proper color for the block and other cast iron parts of the engine? Are they painted the same red or blue or they suppose to be black? If black should they be flat, semi gloss or gloss? Also what about the intake manifold color? I am trying to keep the car as much stock/original as possible. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

RE: 6 cyl. engine paint color
block on a 65 would be black, with orange valve cover and air cleaner. 66 went to blue block with blue air cleaner and valve cover. a semi gloss or gloss should be right... not flat.
All 64.5 - 65 170/200 valve covers and air cleaners were painted "Ford Red" which would be called orangeby anybody else but us Mustang people. That color is available at most Mustang parts suppliers.
