Default 68 GT FASTBACK POSSIBLE PURCHASE...

Need some feedback on this possible purchase. A buddy of mine has a 68 J code fastback, original engine, 4 spd trans...loaded, factory AC, PS, PDB, deluxe dash, fold down seat, tilt, remote mirrors...color is black/black. Very sharp, inside and out. Only problems are: minor rust under battery tray, and around the radiator support. No rust anywhere else, sharp paint, like new interior. Engine runs good, but could use a basic rebuild. You could drive this anywhere right now, and show it at local shows. Clear title, 2 owner car...current owner has owned it for 10 years, and just doesnt have time to tinker with it anymore. He wants $9k. I'm ready to jump on it, but thought I would check with some of the folks here before I lay out the cash. Thanks!!

I would check the floor pans and frame rails for rust just to make sure. IMO, the price sounds good.

yeah sounds damn fine.

check out the cowl, frame, torque boxes and floorpans. take a magnet to the quarter panels... other than that, it sounds like a solid find.

It is owned by a retired Ford Mechanic who has way too many other projects right now. He likes restoring older hot rods, so this one is just left in the garage for now. He flew to California 10 years ago, where the car came from and drove it all the way to Illinois. Rest of the car is really solid, beautiful, just started to rust around the battery from acid over the years I suppose. I wanted to act fast because there are other people who know he is wanting to sell, and may offer him more. He is ready to sell to me now at $9k, I'm thinking now its time before its too late, otherwise I may kick myself!!

+1 Make sure to do the usual water in the cowl test.

Take some pic's and post them, lots of us can spot things some might over look.

Does it have the compleat deluxe package?(doors, console, dash, seats)When you say dash, what exactly are you talking about? (this will help on the price)
