Default rear reflector

does anyone know what the law states on the rear reflector for 1968?

is it required by law?
does it just need to be a reflector or a light?

I don't think anything is required by law to drive these classics just a registration and a great insurance policy to protect against vandalism or accident.

Different states vary but you are using yours as a daily driver with a state inspection need. I use mine as an antique vehicle so it does not require a state inspection. Can't you just stick a reflector on the rear quarter or does it have to be lite up as in rear quarter panel driving light??

I'm pretty sure all states require the car to meet the standards at the time the car was built.
If it had side markers then, they are required now. 68 wudda had side markers.
Not sure about a reflector, maybe that is a substitute.

In 68 only the front fenders have side lights, the rears only have reflectors.

The DOT, a federal level agency dictates what lights are required on the car based on the model year. If it didn't come with one from the factory, so that it could be sold in your state, there isn't one needed on your car.
