Default The Best Air Filter?

Please excuse this post if it has been discussed before. The search here is still not working at this time.

I have a 13 inch K & N cleanable 2 piece (see below) with an air flow top. My Mach 1 scoop is functional.

I´ve used this filter for 3 years now. Is there any discernible difference in performance with this set-up as opposed to a regular disposable paper filter in a regular air cleaner?

I clean and oil it regularly.

What´s yours like?

PS: It sits on top of an Edelbrock 650 4V.

if you're asking for a manufacturer it has to be K&N for airfilters.
I just don't get the 2nd part of your post. the filter you posted is a normal circular based one?!
so if the scoop directs the air to the outside of that filter, then you're good to go, although I don't understand what you mean with 2-piece

oh btw when you clean your airfilter and you're using pressurized air, please blow inisde to outside
excatly the opposite way around as air would normally flow. you want dirt particles to fly off, not jam them into the filter

I've hadthat K&N 13" in a open oval chrome filter setup (aftermarket) for about 18yrs now. Its basically surgical gauze in a wire mesh. Best flow ur gonna find. I don't think you need the K&N top piece inside the regular intake.

I put a K&N filter with a traditional chrome cleaner lid on my new 383. It did pretty well, but since I have a functional scoop, I decided to put on a K&N XStream lids on. MAN it flows good. I was having some weriod stumbling while tuning the car. When I put that lid on, it totally went away. The only down side to what I have it I have to watch water going through the scoop and into the carb thru the filter material on the lid.

Mine´s not chrome, but I found a photo of a filter lid:

Air comes in the scoop directly and flows through the top, as well as the sides, as the entire filter rises a bit to the space inside the scoop.

It only rains 15-20 days a year where I live (basically in Feb and March) so my car hasn´t seen much rain, and never had water in my carb.

I´m still curious how much more HP (if any) is generated by this set-up, and at what speed it is realized. Anybody have a link to scoop stats?

If it does nothing else, it looks cool. The car is pretty quick either way, lol.

I do not have any hard numbers, but at 75 under a load, my carb would surge slightly with the chrome solid lid. That completely went away with the XStream lid. My scoop is not air tight plumbed to the air cleaner, but rather it blows down on the air cleaner, which is about 1/4-1/2" below the hood. I need to fabricate a custom seal for it, but that is far down on the list. I am sure some air blowing in the scoop goes elsewhere but enough is forced into the carb that it helped out my air flow issues at highway speed. I keep my old lid behind the seat to switch over when I wash the car or a unexpected shower hits!
