Default Newbie with a question

Hey all....I'm a newbie on the forum, but i've had my share of Mustangs in the past!! My question is with my ignition switch on a 66. I ordered a replacement switch kit (bezel, keys, switch....), and I'm having a hard time sliding the cylander into the switch. does anyone know if you have to use the paper clip going in as well as taking out? it seems like the (i'll say "paddle" for lack of a better word) that turns the switch goes just far enough to miss the black plastic part so they don't line up. I hope my description helps!

Someone else might have the correct answer. I would just use the paper clip and see if it slides back in.

I have done it a few time and it still takes a couple tries to get it right.
I don't recall if you need the paper clip at first. Just use a big flat blade screwdriver to turn the switch so it lines up with the 'paddle'. Then use the clip to turn the switch all the way left.

Something like that
