gas for old stangs
I don't use a lead substitute since the valve seats were done in mine before I got it. That lets you use unleaded. I use Shell premium because I can buy it with no ethanol. My 289 2bbl has never been rebuilt and putting an ethanol blendin an old engine which has never used it can cause problems...at least that's what I've heard.
I have always used 87 octane in mine no problem with it, mines a 6cyl though and I don't get to drive it much. One time I added a LUCAS gas treatment it helps clean the carb and the valve seals. No trouble with it.

standard 87 for me, gas is too bloody expensive as it is...if you've got a good reason for buying the high-end stuff I'd love to hear it though

other than saving 5 bucks a month, i think its better for the engine running off a cleaner burning gas.
is it that big of a deal? i dont htink so.
It really depends on the engine. You can use ethanol if you want, but you'd need an eth carb that's tuned right, though with the stockish compression ratio you wouldn't gain anything from ethanol other than worse mileage.

yeah lucas is amazing stuff. its also amazingly expensive too.
ive heard on orig engines your supposed to use lead additives (atleast if there orig and from that time period)

i know that 87 is a faster burning fuel. 93 octane burns slower and some higher performance engines require it or else they may ping and s**t because the fuel doesn't stay in the combustion chamber long enough. i use 93 with lead substitute but can get away with 89. i just like a supposedly cleaner fuel.
