Default Hello

Hello, I am new to these forums. After browsing my many options on what forums I can sit around on looking for information and other people with excellent taste I chose these mustang forums. Now I recently picked up a 67 coupe for $1600. No engine/transmission, had the stock 8" rear end in it with 2.79:1 non locking diff and the front suspension and steering linkage still in the car and functional. It needs some body work...which is where I'll be starting. I won't be getting the engine/drivetrain situated until I am done(or at least somewhat close :P ) to being where I want to be with body repairs and upgrades...chassis and suspension as well. My plans will be a solidly built 351w with a ford 9" and a 5 speed....havn't got to the tranny...I get distracted easily lol. I have been browsing through the FAQ's posted in this forum. Unfortunateley many of the links are no longer up. Although I've found It very helpful.

The reason I am posting here is to introduce myself and get opinions on future modifications and plans. I may have alot of questions for you guys here real soon. The car isn't going to be restored back to "factory". It will still be a mustang, but it's going to be my mustang...if that makes sense. I've already found a ton of info on what I have and what I will be doing. If you've got any comments or suggestions on my current basic plan feel free to let me know. Alot of you guys here have learned lessons that hopefully I can avoid or at least try to avoid. Thanks.

JT

Welcome to the forums!

I am in the same process as you kinda. I have a 65' slapping a 351w in with a 5 speed, not sure on the 9 inch though. Theres a few of us in the same boat, so lots of us can help.

Sounds as if you have a good plan to start with.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm just getting started myself, so unfortunately I don't have a lot of technical advice to give as yet. However, I can tell you from experience....if this is your first resto project, research: read as much as you can there is a lot more to this than I first thought. Don't be afraid to ask questions of these guys on here. They are full of advice. Mainly don't let yourself get discouraged if it seems like there is a lot to do before the car is finish.....because there is.

I hear you there. Loading it onto the trailer I found all kinds of stuff I didn't see when I initially inspected the car....OCD can be a pain at times. Going to keep it to body work. I think the Arning drop may be one of my near future projects with the car also. Need to look into my options some more with the front end. Something tells me it will be a primer gray with minimal interior(just functional) around the time I get it going down the road.

Hello, and welcome to mustangforums.com. I'll be your guide.

lol.

I have a 70 and a 66. I'll be glad to help you in any way I can but there is always someone with more knowledge. Especially when it comes to bodywork. I'm a bodywork n00b.

Grats, and post some pics asap... otherwise, you'll likely get flamed. We ALWAYS want pics!

Welcome young'un. Theres a whole lotta people here with a whole lotta info to give out freely, all ya gotta do is ask. As for up-grades....think real hard about front disc's if you have drums now. Also think about doing a Shelby drop on the upper control arms, a monte carlo bar and one piece export brace. BUT above all, make sure you have fun with your car while your rebuilding it!!

Welcome to the forum! I am still pretty new around here, and the guys on here will help alot. They are not all purist that scoff on the originality of you doing what you want to your car. Even Ford wanted people to make the Mustang your own. Back in the 60s. I think that was one of their slogans?

I believe it went something like

"Paint it black. Paint it green. Paint it neon 'f-ing purple. I don't give a rats flying f-ck. Modify the **** out of it. Just leave me alone. Margaret, bring me another scotch"

-Actual Henry Ford quote.
