Tire Size Advice
I currently run stock Bullitt wheels on my '68. I also run 1" spacers front and back. The fronts have fender issues.
I also have installed Bullitt (Cobra) brakes on all four corners. Running spacers sorta hides the pretty red calipers by placing them further back from the face of the wheel.
So, I have decided to run aftermarket Bullitts, but 17x9 out back and 17x8 narrowed to 7" up front. This will place the wheels perfectly at each corner.
Stock Bullitt tires are 25.7" tall. 275/40/17 out back will be 25.6" tall. No-brainer. Up front, I'm between a 225/45/17 and a 225/50/17. The first will be 25.0" tall and the second will be 25.8" tall.
I think both will work, but can't decide which to go with up front.

The section width of a 225 series tire is 8.85". That's a pretty wide footprint when used on a 7" wheel on the front of the car.
Have you thought about maybe a 205/50/17? It would fit better onto the 7" wheel and also into the wheelwell, plus, it's still be 25" tall.

I run a 245 45 17 in front and a 275 40 17 out back in my 67 vert, they fit perfect

I have 225 45 17's up front and it looks good. I am running 275 35 18's out back without problems. I can say that 285 40's will screw something up if the suspension is lowered a couple inches.

I thinks what's being missed here is the fact that wheels have already been purchased. 17x9.5 out back and 17x7 (narrowed from 8") up front. Changing wheel sizes / diameters / offsets, etc. is out of the question.
Stock Bullitt wheels do not fit up front without either hitting the upper control arm or the fender. If you run a 1" spacer, you have fender problems. Without, you have UCA problems. So I'm narrowing stock 8" to 7" to solve the problem.
Out back, the 257/40 on a 9.5is a perfect replacement for the 245/45 on an 8.0. What I don't know is what would be a good replacement up fronton a 7.0" wide wheel. 225/50 seems a bit tall. 225/45 seems short. 215/50 seems a little narrow.
I'm just trying to decide which tire will look right on the front with this narrowed wheel. I'd like it to look the same from the side as the stock Bullitt wheel/tire combo does.
