I had to put a new exhaust manifold on my 170 6cyl. I noticed on the new one that the choke heat tube hole that goes through the manifold, has a recess at the bottom, kinda like a counterbore. Is there something supposed to be installed here, some type of plug or something? The old one had something in there but can't tell what it is due to rust and age. Nothing came with the new manifold and I can't locate info anywhere.

 

Do you have a pic of your header, I also have an I6, but mine is a 200.

 

We need a picture to see what you are talking about. Is there thread in the hole?

Here is a pic of my choke heat tube...looks like a metal plug is in the hole and the tube is inserted into the plug...hope this helps..

OK now I know what you are talking about. I don't have that heat tube in mine. the new carb doesn't have a place for it. I don't think anything is in mine. I have to plug it sometime.

 

If it is like my 200 then you just insert the heat tube in that hole.

 

You do. the 170 and 200 are pretty much the same engine.

 

The hole I am refering to is the hole on the bottom side of the exhaust manifold. See picture. My choke tube plugs into the top, but was wondering if the hole on the bottom should be pluged to create vacuum on the choke or left open just to draw warm air from the manifold?

i had the same question

the hole in the bottom of the manifold is the inlet for the choke tube.

if you run a wire or probe in the bottom, it'll come out the top
