Ignition trouble?
So I put my engine back together (289 bored 30 over with electronic ignition) and trying to get it started:
- The timing is set right at 7 deg
- Connections on top of the distributor are in the correct firing order counter clock wise
- Connection at the solenoid valve are ok (at least we think)
I have a 600 cfm holley with electric choke - I also have a mini starter
The issue: when I turn on start the engine will fire up and will keep running until I release the key onto the run position at which time the engine stops ...
Any ideas / tips are welcome
Thanks

When you engage the starter you get a full 12v from the ignterminal on the solenoid. Once the switch is in run it powers the coil at a lower voltage through a resitor or resistor wire. Maybe it is not connected? If it is then trace that wire back to the ignition switchto find whythere is no power to the coil.
OK guys ... don't laugh too hard please .... we had a blown fuse ... changed it and it cranked up right away with the key on the run position no more problem .... we had a long day yesterday
.... this being saud, it does not switch off and keeps running when I go to the off position ... I will be looking into that but ideas are welcome as usual

hiya ..
there's a cable going from the starter selonoid "I" port to the coil+
this will feed 12V to your coil, because the coil usually only gets 7V during run
So the starter selonoid is perfectly fine. The reason your car does not run after you start is that the cable from selonoid doesn't feed it anymore.
And this is CORRECT behaviour.
What you're missing is 7 or 12V going to coil+ when the key is in ignition position.
So for a quick test, just put a cable from battery+ to your coil+.
start the engine normally and i can almost guarantee you the engine will run
understand this correctly. do not use this for driving around, it's just a temporary test.
so follow the cable going from ignition switch to your coil ....
