Black Ca Plates
Damn I sure wish they didnt' change the plates in 1969 I love the black and yellow plates, mine are friggin' blue and yellow. I guess it could match my car? Its weird because the plates on my car are from 84 o 86, only 2 years and they are on my car. Oh well

good thing you dont live in california cause its illegal to "alter" a lisence plate.
you cant take a retired set of plates and have them registered for a car. we went to a swap meet and found a guy who has thousands of sets of plates. and he said if the black plate is currently registered, then its ok. but you cant buy a used set and pair them with your car. i was bummed cause i wanted some black plates for mine.
and im 99% positive its illegal to have a set of plates refurbished or restored here in CA. even though my dad fixed his himself

4reboyi think you can put the black and yellow plates on your car next july if you have a matching set as some 69's were sold in 68 so they would have been issued black plates ask around to be sure but i think the law says 69 cars and earlier. i just need to fix a couple dents on the front plate what should i use a flat black or matte black when i respray it?
I was at the DMV this afternoon and asked this specific question, and they told me the plates have to be from the same year and make of vehicle. I have a set off my old 69 Chevy truck so i am out of luck.
Well i'm sure they can't check that a certain plate is off a chevy or whatever since it wouldn't be in the system anymore.
but hey if the law comes into affect next july I am down and might go ahead and put black plates on. But I think my mach was a later mach 1 so I'm not sure if it would be 100% correct, but oh well good enough for me

The last six digits of your vin should tell you when the car was built if you look it up. My car was built in May 68.
Your car is a ´69 like mine. I have the orig blk plates (They cost me 2 bottles of Armor-All a year; they´re really old). Get ´em. I believe they are totally correct for your car.
