valve lash again
Ok I can'tget my valve train adjusted properly when the engine is not running,I can't tell when to stop tightning. As I had some old valve covers I cut the top of them cleaned them up and plan to use them to limit theoil lose whenadjustingthe valve lash, Has anybody done this method before and has any tips on this method?

I have to go do my adjustables tonight. I'm just going to take the valve covers off and let it spray. Loosen them up till you hear a distinct metal chatter, then tighten them down till it stops. Once your there, give them one more complete turn and put your locks on. I don't really know of a "clean" way to do it. If you lose a quart, buy one at the store is my best suggestion.
I too have an old valve cover with the top cut off. Works great. Loosen the nut until you hear a distinct clatter, then tight down slowly till the clatter stops, then 1/2 turn or 3/4 turn past "zero" lash (no clatter). Adj them all the same. If the motor starts to miss, slow down and let the lifter catch up (bleed down) to your adjustment.
Have you tried using a feeler guage? That is how I adjust mine. Just take the valve covers off. Disconnect the coil. Use a remote starter button to bump the engine over, and tighten the rockers until you cannot get your desired clearance feeler gauge in there. Most all cams have a recommended valve lash clearance. I went a little tighter for some more lift, but they are good numbers to follow.
