Semi-rare 66?
My old man has had a number of Mustangs over the years (got the bug early on). After seeing and driving my S197 (2008) he said he is considering selling his 66 (his last one) and getting one for trips and a daily driver!
His last 1966 is a regular convertible and TOTALLY ORIGINAL. Never had anything replaced (even the top is crack free and original) and looks like new in many aspects. The only fault it has is several little door dings as he never wanted to paint the car. It has auto (200), power roof, steering, and AIR, original lace caps etc.
Now the odd thing...
It came off the line at the end of 66 and it is a 67 color. I think it is Forest Green instead of Ivy Green (or the other way around). The door jamb paintcode verifies it is indeed a 67 color. It also has a 67 air conditioner.
He bought it from the original owner in the mid 80's with 25K miles. I think it has around 45K miles on it now. It has won a ton of trophys in the original class.
Is this thing worth a decent penny? It drives like a dream and is reliable as a hammer.
He has been out of shows and general touch since he moved out int he sticks after retirement...so he wasn't even sure where to begin price wise. I am going to dig up a pic if possible.
Any thoughts? I think he just wants to get a new S197 before the change the body style. This will be his last Mustang...

The car sounds like quite a rare piece. In the end, especially in this economy as many people have stated before, a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Usually the I6 do not get as much money either, but with gas prices these days it might be different. Just depends if someone is planning to use it for a show car and don't care about that. The fact it is a convertible though is a big plus. I paid 3600 for my 66 I6 auto hardtop with power steering. It did have considerable rust though, and I feel like I paid a little too much. If he is in the sticks location also matters. Not sure if that helps at all.
Keep the 66 Mustang convertible. Anyone can buy a new one. Even a 18 year old kid can buy one, as long as he still lives at home and has a job. The 66 will always go up in value and the new one will never be worth as much as you payed for it. He will regret selling it later.
he can do whatever he wants but car sounds like its worth a pretty penny if he wants a s197 then get it. its up to him depends what he wants out of a car. personnaly with such a car i would fix the dings and sell it because id feel as though i shouldnt drive it and thats no fun. tottaly up to him though but s197 wont gain value for quite a while ;D
