Default charging system

I am not getting a charge to my battery but the alternator is working properly. I can jump the plug at the voltage regulator and get a charge. When I plug the voltage regulator in, I lose any charge going to the battery. Seems simple, bad voltage regulator, but I have gone through three new regulators and have the same problem with each. What else could cause this problem. If anyone has experienced this, I would appreciate some advice.

if you're willing to spend about 150, easy solution. 100 amp 1 wire alternator. got mine from jegs, just bolt it in and run a wire from the alt to the starter solenoid. no crazy wiring problems to screw up your system.

I know that is an option, but I hate to give up so quickly.

Sounds like you alternator needs to be checked out. Take it to Autozone or whatever and have them not only check the condition of your alternator but your battery as well. If it turns out your alternator is the culprit, then replace the VR as well.

I am in the same place as 1966...

Check the wires, check carefully around (near, within a few inches) the ends of the wires where the copper filament may be broken inside of the insulation,,, from 40 years of being bent to and fro...

update: problem solved after much time, effort and energy. The wire going to the ignition had a break in it, so for lack of a better explanation, the voltage regulator didn't know the car was running and wouldn't do it's thing. Patched the wire and everything works like a charm. It just took me a long time to find the problem. Thanks for all the advice guys.
