Default Grant Wheel - Sparking

I have had my wheel off more times than I can count. Somewhere along the wire I cut the insulation on one of the wires. Taped it up and out it all back together again. A few weeks ago the horn started blowing for no reason and with out touching the horn button/cap.

I pulled it apart again and retaped the wires. Hooked the battery back up and the horn is not blaring, this is a good thing.

When I tested the horn without the center cap installed I am seeing sparks between the two "plates" that the wires are hooked to. Is this normal? It seems strange but it didn't blow any fuses and with the button on you won't see the sparks so I don't know if it's always done this.

Normal for a Grant wheel? Yes. Will it cause any problems? Probably.

Default sparks

when you redid your horn/steering wheel there should have been 3 foam rubber spacers for between the copper plates/contacts,,,equaley spaced around the contacts,,,sparking ain't normal..means cracked wires some where,,,ask yourself when it happens? straight down the road ,,,,( could be anywhere in the run ) only turning,,, in the contact/switch area,, been there and done it.. ain't fun... it's like paying for the same restate twice

We hear this every few weeks, Grant wheel just plain suck. They many times spark, and or cause a clicking sounds.

Simple fix, get a different wheel.

That's what I meant by 'normal for a Grant wheel.' They're just plain crappy.

great....i just bought one too!!! i didn't use the 2 horn rings in mine though...i just put the wires through and connected them to the horn button..is this a different wheel? it didn't look like i needed to use them and the horn works fine....no sparks at all. i also took the turn signal cancel off of the original wheel and put it on the grant hub instead of using those pins. that seems to work too.

The three spacers are there. Thats what I don't understand. Even after retaping the wires its still doing it. I love the look of the wheel, hate the clicking, and this may be my fault. I try a new install kit for $20 and see what happens.

Complains will likely fall on deaf ears. Grant hasn't changed their horn button design in decades.
