Turn downs behind the axle dump all the exhaust gases/noise straight at the ground, where they get reflected right back up at the bottom of the car. This results in a) exhaust gases filtering into the cab when you're stopped or moving slowly, and b) an extremely excessive amount of resonation inside the cab (can you say hearing loss?). You can get a great sound through tailpipes; there's no need to use pre-axle dumps.
