Can't really tell difference. I read fine print and the 10 point increase is equal to 1 higher octane rating (i.e., 89 to 90).
Really? The Octane boosters are only raising the octane 1 point (RON+MON/2)? I have read a few independent tests that show gains of:

STP 2 octane boost
STP 3x directed amount 5 octane boost
Outlaw 3octane boost
Outlaw 2x directed amount 5octane boost
Lucas 3.5octane boost
Lucas 2x directed amount 5.5octane boost
NOS Octane 4.5octane boost

So you can see that with an over the counter product, you can take 93octane pump gas to 98octane without messing with racing gas. If you want over 100octane, you will need something else though.

I live in A-town. I work at Camp Roberts as an Army contractor. I'm going to try to get into Cal Poly in the winter semester if they don't screw me with out of state resident charges.

I have been using a blend of xylene, acetone, and a bit of marvel mystery oil and it seems to up the octane in my 68. It feels quite a bit more peppy. My mix is 8 oz of xylene to 10 oz of acetone to 2 oz of marvel. I then add 4 oz of this mixture to 10 gallons of gas.

Interesting that my owners manual states that the minimum octane rating that should be used in a 1966 289 2V and 4V is 99.8. and 94.0 for 6cyl.

Yeh, those were the good ol' days. Lead really helped octane levels. That is why they got away with 11.5:1 compression ratios until the EPA got involved!

Calm down there, it's not that big a deal. It's a forum, it happens occasionally. And considering JonWard is the original poster, I don't think he minds that much:P

As far as owner's manual specs, octane was measured differently back then as opposed to now. It was still higher back then due to lead additives, but you shouldn't need to run 100 octane in your stock 289.
