Default manual swap or leave it auto?

im currently restoring my 67 coupe, in which i am going to put a new motor, trans, and rear. im not sure on whether to leave it auto and put a manual valve body trans in it, or do a 5 speed conversion. any opinions? what work must go into doing a 5 speed swap? and if i was to put a 4 speed would that be easier?

Its really up to you, it can all be done, but leaving it auto would be easiest and it will be quicker that way.

yeah but going with the 5 speed would be the most fun and save fuel.

I would agree wth that Gun! My truck is a 5 speed and its a blast to drive, and I can get better mileage than people with the same truck except Auto trans.

For sure.

Other than a few really minor issues I really love my t5!

Putting a 5 speed in my car was the single best mod I did. These cars deserve a manual transmission.

I'm not putting the C4 auto back in our 67. Searched for about 2 months and found a great deal on a 4-speed toploader with the matching Hurst comp shifter. Everything but the clutch linkage which I didn't care about as I went with a hydraulic clutch setup instead.

Yeah.. the 5-speed would be nice and might happen down the road. The 4-speed is still gonna be fun and cost me a lot less at this time.

Choice is yours but manual is a must!

is the manual swap hard? is there a lot of fabrication involved?

A C4 with a good convertor and a shift kit is hard to beat. Doesn't break U-joints and axles as often either.

Most drag racers use auto trannys and out of those most Ford drag racers use C4s. They are great trannys and keep the power planted. I agree that a four speed is a bunch of fun, but performance wise the auto is no slouch. Your resell is going to be hurt doing an auto to manual swap. Auto tranny code cars with a manual tranny set off red flags with buyers, so if you plan to sell it, think twice.
