replacing frame rails- need help
I am in the process of replacing the frame rails on my 67 coupe. They are almost totally gone. I have braced the car by the motor mounts and the rockers. I cut out the driver side rail as much as possible.
Does anyone have a trick to seperate the rail from the motormounts and crossmembers? I am having dificulty cutting them out without damaging anything els in the process. I am assuming that everything is spot welded together so if there is an easy way to find the welds I could drill them out maybe.
I have been trying with a sawsall and grinder for awhile and they do not reach very well.

The presumption is your doing front rails ( there's also a rear framerail system) Take a drill with a wire wheel to the frame rail edges, you should see the spot welds. Using a 3/8 " drill bit or a spot weld cutter cut the spots open. You may need to use a chisel also. Mustangs Montly has an article on how to do this. (i hope you have the engine out)
Highly recommend taking it to a shop to have that done. If it isnt in there straight and square with the car, you will never get it aligned properly and it could be a very dangerous vehicle to drive. Not to mention your bumpers, fenders doors and wheels may not line up right requiring even more work to fix things.
Just FYI..
If you want to do it yourself, you need the car perfectly level and off the suspension. You need to measure and mark everything attached to the rail you are replacing, including the distances across and diagonally from the rest of the car. Things move around when a structural member is removed, and that job requires quite a bit of moving things around, cutting and proficient welding. Its not a cut and paste like replacing a fender or door.
