Default C6 transmission a negative?

I have a 73 351cleveland convertible, 2 barrel with a C6. I've read that the C6 is a negative. Why? Is it really a big deal vs. the C4?

MAybe because the stock transmission was an FMX and for originallity you would want the correct box. Check your codes on the door, if the car came with a C6, then leave it that way. If you are just planning on keeping and enjoying the car, I would definately keep the C6. I destroyed a C4 in a 70 1/2 Falcon (Stripped Torino) station wagon with a 302. I replaced it with a C6 using a 351CJ converter, never had another problem.

c6 as said above is very strong, no need to get rid of it. if you need a rebuild i believe they sell wide ratio gear sets for it if you want to change things up inside

I would say that having a c-6 in your car is a huge plus. You don't have to deal with that piece of sh*t fmx tranny. The c-6's can handle gobbs of power. They are heavier than the c-4. I would stay with the c-6.

The only gig against the C6 that I have ever seen or heard is weight and the HP it takes to turn it compared to a C4. Not much more, but more.

I have had a C6 in my 67 fastback for damn near 20 years and they certainly haven't been 'easy' years and I have rebuilt it once. Not because it was shot but because I was rebuilding the engine at the time and figured what the hell, since I'm in here....

Great tranny that will give you years of dead nuts reliable service.

You deduct value because it isn't a stick shift that's all. Pretty standard in car valuations people still seem willing to pay more for a stick shift.
