Trans,Clutch,???
Ok i just started driving my mustang after about 2 years(around the block for kicks)and the trans was rebuilt about 2 years ago which has probably 15 miles on it. I pulled the engine and at the time I saw the clutch and it seemed to be in good condition. Now for some reason all of the sudden when I'm in 2nd around 3500rpms the car just revs and doesn't engage the wheels anymore. I have no other problems in any gears. WTF??? The clutch pedal did have to much freeplay but I adjusted that and nothing. Any Ideas
I adjusted the two nuts down on the threaded rod where the clutch pedal assembly attaches. It's weird though I would think it would slip in 1st before 2nd because it would be under a bigger load.
Did you leave some play at the pedal?
Does the shifter move sideways when you gas it?
Here's a helpful link MUSTANG CLUTCHES

I'll check the linkage but it just started happening and it doesn't "pop" out it runs normal until like 3500-4000 and just revs.
I left a little play in the pedal. When I adjusted the pedal the gears go in a lot smoother but 2nd still does the same thing, and I haven't notice the shifter moving from side to side at all.

It seems you need a new clutch.
But you want to be sure.
Check that under load you still have free travel on the pedal. While cruising, give it the gas and lightly press on the clutch pedal. You should feel the throwout bearing contact the fingers of the pressure plate after an inch or so of travel. If you do this means the clutch is fully engaged and just not holding.
(FYI- The side to side movement would have indicated a broke motor mount.)
