Default Total rookie question.....

So I'm working on my 70 coupe and I am trying to strip the car down. I have all of the glass out, all the turn signals out, headlights, et ecetera. However, there has been one small thing that I have not been able to get off, the windshield wipers. You all may laugh at me.

I, for one, won't laugh at you. Not a silly question at all. Many Mustang owners have asked the same thing.

The truth is, they don't come off. Wipers are welded on. It was a safety feature.

The cowel and the wipers were installed in every Mustang as a connected unit. You have to remove your windscreen to get at the rear cowel bolts. Then you have to disengage the driveshafts from the wiper motors. You'll also need a gear puller with an extension. It's a real hassle.

Good luck.

Well I'm glad that no one has laughed at me, that is a real relief. Rmodel65, I've seen the tab that you are refering to, however, I've pulled on that tab multiple times with no luck. I may still be missing something but who knows. Thanks for all the help guys, I hope that it is as easy as pulling that tab and being done with it.

pretty much, they can be a pain since they might have been on for 40 years :P

take some tape and tape up the jaws on some vice grips, clamp down on the arm(not hard enough to crush it though) then with a screwdriver etc relase the tab and pull off with the pliers

I think you have to pull the arms off the windshied for the tab to move. Kind of like when you clean the window. Try and pull the tab as you pull the arm away, when it gets to the right spot, the tab will move. Instead of pliers, I put a piece of wood on the cowl and pry from under the arm end with a screwdriver. Just don't get carried away with that part. Oh, and......hahaha..really, you would think it would be the easiest part to remove, but it's not.

OK No joke this time, lol.

The wiper arm is also tension mounted from a spring inside the arm that holds the wiper blade against the windscreen. There is actually a tool to remove the arm (called a wiper-arm removal tool), but you can pad the jaws of a pair of vise-grips like rmodel said and tilt the bottom of the arm slightly towards the glass. The arm should then slip off the driveshaft.

Sorry about the first post, but I couldn't help it when you said "don't laugh" lol.
