Question Need Some Help

Hello,
First off I would like to say hello to everyone. Now to get to business. I have a 71 Cougar with a 351c 2v (if you could not guess from the name). When I drive the car everything seems smooth until I stop. When I accelerate the car hesitates for a sec or 2 and then goes. Any ideas what could be causing this? I cleaned the carb, checked adjustments, that sorta thing. Am I gonna need a new carb you think? Thanks in advance for any input.

do you mean the engine would not rev up (hesitate) or do you mean the engine sounds okish, but the car does not move for 1 sec or 2 ?

in the first case check for timing as well as the accelerator pump setup
in the latter case the problem is rather related to automatic gearbox

the engine sounds good, every now and then when i stop, then go it hesitates. You press the gas and the car acts like it is gonna stall for a split second then goes fine. It happens when you go from a low speed and start accelerating, like when I slow down to turn or stop at a light.

Carb is in need of an overhaul ( accel pump) or you have a plugged fuel filter.
