You first need to give everyone a more thorough description of the car. Auto, standard, GT, nochback, fastback, pony interior, etc., etc.?!

Look at the edge of your passenger door and there is a data plate there. Write down the info off of it and go to this site:

http://mustangdecoder.com/plates.html#1966

Then cut & paste that info here. That will give us a better idea of what you are starting with. Then the "condition" questions will start

Or you can do a google search for "66 Mustang". that will lead you to more sites and pictures than you can imagine. Enough that it will take a week to get all the drool cleaned off your keyboard [:'(]

Nice to see inteligent young people buying cool cars!

Have fun!!!!!

i'm not sure if i looked @ the right place, the numbers/letters just don't seem right, this is refered to as the "vin" #, and aren't there other places to find this??, when i put the # in the decoder it says it's a 73', and i'm sure it's a 66'., any other ideas would be apprciated

Put the numbers you get off your data plate on here. We will tell you exactly what you have. Also, open your hood and look at the driver's side inner fender. There should also be the same numbers as are on your data plate. There is no way to put a 70's door on a 66 Mustang, so swapping doors in the past is an impossibility.

Look at the vehicle warranty number. If the first number is a 6, then you have a 66.
