Default Body Question

Hey everyone,
I am replacing my taillight panel and left quarter panel (skin only) The transition piece between the existing panel and quarter is toast. I have searched my NPD and Mustangs Unlimited catalogues for the transition piece and can't find it in either. I did find the piece for a 71-71 though. Does anyone make the transition piece for a 68 coupe that connects the taillight panel to the quarter panel? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Are you talking about the part at the top? I can't help you with any definite information but I do recall some discussions on this forum about that part generally being very hard to find, if it can be found at all. I know some guys have had to patch or fabricate their own.

I think you are talking about the trunk corner, which has part of the drip tray (the 90 degree corner) in it. I am looking for the vertical piece right below that, that is spot welded to the quarter panel "flange" and the tail light panel. It has holes in it that the quarter panel extensions bolt to.......
Thanks,
Gordon

I saw the same thing in the Mustangs Unlimited catalogue. They are for the 69-70 sportsroof so I doubt they would even come close. Does anyone know if they come attached to full quarter panel replacements? I wonder if buying a full quarter instead of just a skin would get me one

Maybe a junkyard/ebay parts car? Just a thought, seeing as how its welded on, maybe it would still be there for you.

Okay, I shot a picture of the mystery part on my 68. Not knowing how to post or attach a picture of said part, I added it as my avatar so that ya'all can see it. I shot a photo of my left side part after I had removed the tail light panel. I am pointing to it in the photo. If you know where to get these things new (junkyard parts probably wouldn't work due to the inevitable destruction in removing them from the donor car)
Thoughts or ideas?
Thanks,
Gordon

Had a similar problem matching the quarter to the tail light panel. Use some 22G steel, cut, fit and weld in place. it will take some bending and hammering to get close to OEM. sheet metal bending pliers come in real handy here.

I don't think the oem quarter includes that piece. Your best bet is to fab it up out of sheet metal. Even if it is not perfect, it is hidden under the extension.
