Default torque converter, starter problems

so i go to bolt up my starter and when i do i realize that the bolts comming off the torque converter that allow you to bolt it to the flywheel are too long and when the engine is going to turn they are going to nick the starter... any possible solutions to this or am i going to have to drop the tranny and replace the torque converter?

Also, make sure that the torque converter is seated all the way into the transmission shaft. I had a problem with a buddies car where it wasn't seated all the way and was binding.

ok ill check the torque converter.. im pretty sure its all the way in ( is there a specific way to tell if its all the way in) also im pretty sure its actually my starter... its one of those mini high torque starters... it has a lip on it that protrudes towards the TC and that is what the bolts seem to be hitting. (thats what i get for buying a starter off of ebay) so im gonna go buy a started from autozone or something and see if it fitts right... at least i can always return that one... thanks for the posts guys

Default possible new problems

hey guys.. so i ve been doing some research on line and i keep seeing these diagrams of flywheel assemblys and many of them mention a spacer of some sort? so i was wondering if there is suspose to be a spacer or something behide the flywheel.. i put a pic of a diagram i drew up (please mind my bad drawing) but besides the block plate (lower right coner) is there some thing else that goes behind the flywheel to bolt up to the holes on the back of the block?

its a big metal shim that is sandwiched in between the motor and tranny it must go one before the flexplate

similar to this but an auto will have a cut out at the bottom so you can take the torque converter bolts loose http://www.thepartsbin.com/images/pr...wood/15726.jpg

well the block plate is there , however the circular hole in the middle is so wide it does not effect the flywheel. it does put a small space inbetwwen the trans and the block which i can see really helping the distance of the bolt sticking out to much but what i was refering to is this peice which i just found a few days ago... im almost positive that it goes either before or after the flywheel... could you guys give any insight to what this peice is? thanks guys
