Rear Leaf Springs

Rear Leaf Springs
Between a change in wheel diameter and offset my back tires now rub on the fenders when I hit decent size bumps. I would like to get 5 leaf springs but am having trouble with choosing stock, mid or reversed eye position. Mid says 1" below stock, reverse says 1.5" below stock. Problem is I don't know what stock height is. I currently have 4 leaf springs but don't know the age so I can't assume I'm at stock height. Can someone tell me what stock height is? Thanks.

RE: Rear Leaf Springs
I contacted GW and am waiting for a reply. In the mean time, let me pose a slightly different question. Has anyone out there used Mustangs Plus 5 leaf rear springs? If so were the eyes in the stock, mid or reverse positions and what is the distance from the center of the wheel to the top of the wheel opening in the fender? Also what year Mustang. Thanks

RE: Rear Leaf Springs
When I replaced my leaf springs on my 65 last summer, I considered going to the 5 leaf from the stock 4 because my rear was sagging, but decided that the springs were just old, so went with stock 4 leafs. I am glad I did, because she now sits level front to rear, and the ride isn't as stiff as it would be with 5 leafs. And, it is my understanding that you only go with 5 leafs if you are cranking some serious power to the rear. One thing I did learn though, was to not fully tighten the rear shackle bolts while the car is jacked up. It squeaked on me, so I loosened the shackle bolts while it was on the ground, then retightened them. That solved the spueaking.

Air shocks, they cost about 50 bucks at your local parts store [8D]
I gonna try to sqeeze some 18s under the back of my stang with some low low low pro tires. Hopefully these wheels

Yeah, that will certainly jack up the rear if you put enough air in them. But, 50 dollar Monroe's are a waste of money. If you are going to solve your rear height problem with shocks, then consider KYB's, or better still.......Koni

RE: Rear Leaf Springs
The rear shackles on a stock car are only about 2 or 3 inches long, and you can't even see them when looking at the back of a vintage mustang. Some guys put on the aftermarket long ones to gain height, but they are frowned on my vintage mustangers. They make for sloppy handling. And, just plain look silly on a vintage mustang.
