Default Wheels and tires

Yes, I searched and searched, so please don't skewer me too bad.

Recommend a 17" tire and size for my 1966 fastback. I need tread, so width is important (that's what she said), but I have to steer so it has to fit in the stock wheel wells. Should I go with a different size front and rear?

I did find this which is helpful:

I'd recommend either BFG G-Force tires, or a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's. If you want something that will last a little longer but still grab well, G-Force Sports. If you want something that will stick to the road, G-Force KDW's or the F1 GS-D3's (stick better, shorter life).

your tire size wheel depend on the amount its lowered.IMO, I wouldnt do the same size as somebody else unless you have the exact same drop as them .

+1

Also, if your front tires are wider than stock, or if the wheel offset causes the track to be wider, you might clear your rubber on a level road, but hit your wheel wells on bumps or turns or even slowly backing out of a driveway while turning. This can be really inconvenient if it's a daily driver.

Handling, response, acceleration, braking, steering and even shifting will be different with larger wheels/tires. If you drive the car a lot, consider all that stuff.

Good Luck,

CP

Track down Dodgestang's wheel & tire page for this very topic.
