72 mach rim size

My brother purchaced a 1972 mach 1 last month and decided on some magnum 500 rims for it.But what size rim and tire will fit?He wants the biggest tire for the back, and what about backspacing and such. Thanks for any help,Ill get some pics when he has tires and gets out of the garage.

Well I can do backspacing easy enough.. :) No quarters on it means plenty of room to see how much will fit. :) It would be a guess on the outside at this point, since I could hold the quarters on with magnets and measure, but its nowhere near final.

I have 15x8 rims under it now, they fit before I cut the quarters off, but it could use more backspace, there is a ton of room behind those tires. Does he want to go 16"-17" or larger?

I put 17's on mine and they look great

magnum 500s look best in a 15x8 size wheel. and u want a ~4.5 inch backspacing. give or take a 1/4 inch.

225/60/15s i think would be a good size.

If he gets a 15x8 rim can a wider tire like 245 or larger go on without the wheel sticking out of the wheelwell?

I have 15x8 in the rear and 15x7s in the front.
