Default 67/68 console

Is there any way to convert a 68 automatic console (the black padded type) to a 67 manual console (the brushed metal)?? I know that the automatic plate can be removed and replaced with a 4-speed plate on the 67's but I was wondering if the same can be done with the 68 padded consoles.

No they are manufactured with the padding. Sell yours and put that money towards a 67 one, though they may not be cheap. I sold one a couple years ago on ebay mated to a upper console, both in good condition to a guy in australia for $1700.

Cost me about $30 for materials. I have the cup holder covered on the inside and have a shift boot on now.

I just bought '67 upper and lower consoles with the brackets and the wiring in pretty good shape for $175.00 for both. The lower is an automatic, tho...

thats excellent, and unbelievable! you got a GREAT deal. I hope they're in good shape. I didn't say what I sold them for was the going rate, but they can go for extreme prices from time to time, and average around $500-$800 for most lowers, I think.

I'm not sure who is selling them but I read in another forum that a reproduction '67 console is available for about $1000.

Yeah, I saw the ad on craigslist and called the guy... I just about dropped the phone when he said he'd take $100 for the lower. I went to his house and looked at it and just for the heck of it, I offered him $75 and he said ok...
Not tryin to steal the thread, but here's a pic of the lower if anyone wants to see it: http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...mustang053.jpg
