I NEED A JOB!!!
I don't know about you Ed but I usually keep my mouth shut about the economy around here....don't want a ton of folks flooding in and making it harder to find a job, etc.
But for classic Stang owners I make an exception, LOL!

Im in the Military boat too.. NAVY!
active duty since Aug 2000 and havent had to worry about missing a paycheck yet..
I know some of the young ones on this board will probably be looking for jobs at the end of the school year. I couldnt afford college, wanted to get out of my "no-stoplight" tiny town, and wanted to better myself, so I joined.. It worked.. And Ive got a cool car (even though its ugly)..
I get paid on the 1st and 15th EVERY MONTH,, not to mention bonuses and hazardous duty pay when I am deployed.. Its pretty great. This is what I work on: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phalanx_CIWS

I wouldn't be where I am in my life without the military. Best damn thing I every did for myself. Working for a corp is fairly predictable = the economy tanks, the first to go are the jobs. Fed up, I left my old job after 20 yrs back in Dec. Not 60 days after I left, the company canned the entire dept, some 50-75 people. Good luck out there! Keep your head up, stay focused, stay positive.
I'll be honest with you.
I miss Texas but when I was there (in San Antonio) I was "over qualified" for everything I applied for and very few people would talk to me.
I had to move to Birmingham, AL for a job. In the process my wife left her family (everyone of her relatives live in Texas). But she's happy here now. Loves her job, church and the house we bought. We both miss Texas and the fact they did not have a state tax, but have adjusted here.
I currently am working 3 jobs and looking at going back to college to get a teaching certificate just for job security and retirement.
I wish I could get back in the military. My wife would not like it but I would love to serve my country again (medically discharged when downscaling after the Persian Gulf War).
My brothers have both served. My youngest brother got out a month ago from Active Air Force and is signing up for the National Guard to get a Security Clearance (Top Secret $$) and a $14,000 sign on bonus. He plans to do his one weekend a month and 2 weeks in the summer while going to college and look for a job with a govt. contactor.
My twin brother is an intel officer in the Air Force. Life has been very good to him. He's about 8 years from 20 and already been offered jobs making over 120k a year (in the SE region), plus he's a fellow mustang owner and drives a ShelbyGT/SC.
I'm sorry your having a rough time. I wish you all the best in your job hunting. I've never been to California but I stepfather was born and raised there in Santa Barbara. He loves Texas and the lack of crazy rush hour traffic and all the land.
He has now moved to just outside of Birmingham and loves this area for the climate and natrual settings plus the inexpense of daily living.
I can tell you my taxes on my house (roughly 2200 sqft) were estimated at $600.00, and it is brand new with 3/4 of an acre of land and a multitude of trees (a few less when I build a second garage {keeps fingers crossed}).
I spent 3 years looking for a job in Texas before I moved here and I know what it's like.
I wish you the best.

Ah those "Sea Wizzes" are bad @ss! I've watched them destroy fake targets before. I was on the USS Boxer for a WEST-PAC. Good times! I got to sea half the world that I would never have seen if it weren't for the Marines [and our taxi service, the Navy].

years ago my uncle wanted back in after he was medically discharged. so he joins up with the guard, then doenst show up for guard weekends. so what is the punishment active duty(exactly what he wanted) it took them a while to catch on to what he had done :P and he was medically discharged again
Hang in there. So Cal will probably bounce back if you can wait long enough. It all seems to go in cycles. Around here (Central Illinois) things were really lousy in the early 80s. Layoffs everywhere...houses would not sell...no new construction...no hiring. Right now, new subdivivions are still going up, houses have not lost value like they did in a lot of areas (I had two neighbors who got transferred sell their houses in less than a day) and employers actually have "Now Hiring" signs out front. My house was built in 2001 and just appraised for 29 percent more than I put into it. I'm sure some day it will be lousy here again and great somewhere else. Yes, Waffles, Michigan has some hard years ahead until the car manufacturers get it together again.
And I recall Texas had some hard times in the early 80s too, when oil went from $40 to $10.
