Ok well my mustang has been running funny all my acceleration has gone away and its sputtering alot. It smokes like a little black smoke but i think thats my piston rings but i think it is something different. Some people said that it could be my head gasket but its not leaking on the outside anywhere. My carb is kinda leaking i think but i dont hink that would be whats causing this problem. Its a 200ci inline six if you were wondering. If you got any ideas i'd appreciate it i dont want to go buy something i dont need.

Loosen the screw and then move the points to the right distance. Tighten screw back and test. I don't have points anymore, but I think it was 23 or 21 thousandths.

Also check for vacuum leaks. As for the black smoke you could be getting close to flooding the car or you are and it is burning off the excess fuel.

Clean the carb, check float setting, and make sure idle mixture isn't too lean or rich.

Wow..sounds familiar. About 2 years back my son's 67 stang inline six was having similar problems. Instead of giving you the whole long story, here is what worked for us. Replaced rusty gas tank which caused carb to get all gunked up, rebuilt the carb (autolite 1100), tune the engine, adjusted carb and all was well. Be sure your gas tank is clean and rebuild the carb. Adjustment of the carb is real key...good luck!!!

Make sure the float is not stuck open or misadjusted
