Default VIN Help, I need the production date?

I have to order a ignition lock cylinder for my 1973 Mustang and they made 2 different ones, before 5/14/73 and after, so I don't know which one to order. I don't have the warranty code on the door to give me the build date.

My Vin # is 3f04f142111 Does anyone have the "Mustang Production Guide In Search of Mustangs" by Jim Smart book that can help me out.

Thanks

no idea, but there were 130000 produced and yours seems to be #42111, so rather an early one?
can't you get the order date from the door data tag?

edit: worst case, pull yours and ask the seller what the difference between those are. they should know

I once ordered a light swiotch and got the wrong one, so I learned from that: ask before you order

Go to http://www.mustangdecoder.com. You'll need all the data from your door plate. Fill in the boxes and it'll give you body style, original color, trim, production date, etc. Let me know how you do.

You can also order up a Marti report:
http://www.martiauto.com/

Its less than $50 and you get exact details about your vehicle.

I agree with retro77, get the Marti Report - A Deluxe report is $46.

All we can tell from your VIN is that it is a '73 Grande with a 302 2V built at the Dearborn Assembly Plant. The Consecutive Unit Number is for the Dearborn plant only and not for the total '73 Mustang production.

Do you have a body buck tag on your car? It's usually mounted to the inner fender in the engine bay.

I have a 73 Convertible with a vin serial # of 215500, it was built in April 1973. Yours appears to be older.

mikeofwarr, Just to clarify for dieselfuel 13, was your car assembled at Dearborn?

I believe if you special order a part, they will charge a percentage of the price as a restocking fee to return it.
