Default Spark plugs?

I want to put Bosch Platinum 4's in my 66 289. THey dont have them for that engine, but they have them for a 1983 302.
Are they interchangable? Thanks

Well, according to the chart I have, Bosch didn't make the platinum 4 for vintage 289's. It wasn't until the 1983 5.0L that they offered that plug. On the other hand, NGK has a platinum plug for your 289. The part number is WR 5GP. Here is a pic.

Is that plug as good as the platinum 4? I put the P4's in my impala[ i know it's a chevrolet dont rag me] and it ran much better. So the 1983 5.0 plugs wouldn't fit?

Oh, they will probably fit, but I don't have that information. Maybe some of the other members can chime in here. However, the NGK plugs are extremely good plugs. I use the stock Motorcraft plugs that work just fine. I also have a Motorcraft carb, etc. But, I am one of those old original type guys, so don't be swayed by what I say.

yeah, I just don't want to spend $6.00 a plug and they not fit. i'll look at the Ngk plugs, i'll probably get them. Have you tried that pertronix ignitor 2 electronic igintion thing? It converts your points to an electronic ignition. Im thinking of getting that.

Yeah I have the Pertronix set-up. Be sure to also get the coil. With them both, you can open up those NGK's to .040 or so. Hellava hot spark.

Did you feel the difference, in the performance area? I was planning on getting the coil, because right now i have the original yellow top on there.

Oh yeah....the electronic ignition is far superior to the points and condenser. However, I still have a set of points in my glove box. I have heard stories about the pertronix failing, so I just want the insurance of having the original points and condenser just in case I am on a lonely road at night and that sucker fails. I also keep a full set of tools in my trunk.

Yeah, the flamethrower puts out 40,000 volts, and the flamethrower II puts out 45,000 volts.
