ok guys so i sprayed all gaskets and idle remained the same.....checked vacuum and the hose from intake to tranny line was disconnected! so now when i put it into drive it works fine now..it was running decent but still had a little pop....then it randomly shut off and im pretty sure becasue it ran outta gas so i went to go get gas and now it wont start back up sounds like battery is dead wont crank as fast checked battery which is 2 days old and its fine.....so i left it to charge will update again later today
thanks again guys for all your help

Won't crank has nothing to do with the coil. Do you have a ground strap from the engine to the frame? Test the spark by clamping your timing light pick up over the secondary wire (the one that goes to the distributor) and hold the timing light trigger down while cranking the car. If it flashes do the same thing to a spark plug wire to see if the distributor is okay.

checked ground strap and it was really loose and the screw going into the block is stripped...so im gunna put it on the header bolt is that ok? also i did timing light and from coil to distrubter wire it flashed...and from distrubtier to cylinder 1 it flashed. so im guessing coil and dist r ok? or no? i checked plugs today they r very oiled fouled and r only about a year old but sat for a year..checked gap and cleaned as much as possible. battery died so i didnt get to test a full crank but still didnt start up..what else is there!?!?!
