Default Need Tech Support!

Please dont laugh, but this is my first project! I need to locate the hidden VIN under my Passenger fender. I have a clear title but believe the VIN was improperly transposed! Before I just strt removing bolts.. any guidance would be appreciated. I only want to do what is necessary to find the vin plate!

In case you are wondering the Left Door was obviously replaced along with the Left fender. Any help and pointers would be greatly appreciated from those who have gone this way before me!

well thats a good question

I think the vin is stamped on the left fender apron. Its not a tag its stamped directly on the fender... you have to open the hood to find it, its on top....at lest I think thats the vin....however I have a 66 so they may have done them differently on the 68s

The fender was replaced before I got it. The only other spot is supposedly under the right fender. I was told the fender must be removed to locate it.

I am guessing your car is a 68 from your handle. The 68 should have a vin plate on the passenger side of the dash that should be visible through the windshield.

The vins should also be stamped on both the driver and passenger fender apron, not on the fenders themselves. If the car is a Metuchen built car, there may be a buck tag.

On the fender aprons, the one on the drivers side should clearly be visible on where the cutout is on the drivers side fender. If it is not there, the one under the fender is usually up around the shock tower. You will have to pull back the fender to find it.

Great news!

Now you can get the Marti Report to find out if it's a Sprint or not, have a Door Data Plate made.

I believe Kevin Marti can also make the Dash VIN Tag for you too. You'll probably have to remove the windshield to put that tag in place.

You'll also have to talk to the DMV about correcting your VIN on you registration and title.

Keep us posted! Good Luck!

P.S.: I was telling a friend about this situation and he said a previous owner may have replaced the dash pad on your car and just covered over the dash VIN plate. It should be on the right hand side of the dash right at the windshield base. So if you remove your dash pad, it may be there underneath. Normally, it would be visible through the glass.

Waiting on the Marti. Im getting ready to take it down for body work and paint, so I will unravel some of the mystery I guess. Any thoughts on adding a Weiand 2180 intake and Holley 600 CFM carb to the stock block. These came with the car. I would also like recommendations on a mild cam to warm it up a bit.....

If you get a new cam, go with something along the lines of an edelbrock RPM cam. I wish I would have gone with it, just as many of the guys on here had warned that I would.. I went with the Performer plus and now I want more.. But I guess I am saving on gas..

will that work with stock heads? Also any idea what wheel size a 68 coupe can handle? I am looking at 17 inch but worry that they mostly are sold in 17x9
