Default Engine compartment almost done!

Well today I worked up the ambition to paint the engine compartment and get some stuff cleaned up.
I'm very happy with the result.

BEFORE:

(old crappy small air cleaner and shock towers that needed TLC)

MASKING:

(I think I over did it, but I did not want to risk a $3500 paint job)

NOW:

New edelbrock air cleaner and finned "mustang" A/C cover. New edelbrock valve covers coming soon.

Certainly looks a lot neater!
Curious why you chose flat black though...

It turned out a lot flatter than I expected, but It looks sharp.

I choose a high-temp paint, which turned out to be very flat.

Looks clean. The air cleaner, wires and compressor plate really make a classy statement. Paint your compressor clutch, and any unused pulley grooves to get rid of the rust.

I do agree with Dan66 though. Flat black will be hard to keep clean. It's almost like a sponge. Where as Satin Black, seals better, and cleans up easy.

You also might want to pick up a couple of the anti-corrosion felt battery post washers. They will really help keep down the corrosion on your battery terminals. If you go to a Napa store they have the black ones that fit either post. Whatever you do stay away from the red gell they give you. The washers will do everything you need.

You don't need a high-temp paint for the engine bay. Good ol' Krylon semi-flat black is a spot-on match for what Ford used. (Satin is actually a tad more glossy than semi-flat.)

I was looking at Eastwoods "under hood paint," which is a semi-gloss made especially for that application.

UNDER HOOD BLACK

I might put a coat of that on next weekend when I have time to remask it.

I would rather put the time and effort into it and make it look good, rather than looking like a chalkboard.

So, you went with the Edelbrock air cleaner, huh? Looks really sharp.

I'm sure it's a fine product (as all Eastwood stuff is); but I'm equally as sure that it's expensive! I'm tellin' you: plain ol' Krylon semi-flat (or is it semi-gloss?) is about $2.50 a can; goes on smoothly; lasts forever; and looks perfect.
