Smile kickdown for 351w 1969

Hi!
I tried to search for information here on the forum but I really have to ask you anyway.
I am missing the Kickdown Rod on my Mach 1 1969 with 351w and FMX. The carb is now an Edelbrock 600 (#1406). I have two questions. Is it bad for the transmission to drive without the Kickdown Rod on an old FMX like mine even if I dont drive with a wide open throttle?
Do you think it´s better to go with a Lokar Kickdown wire or maybe try to find an original Kickdown Rod. If I go with the stock rod I suppose I will need an adapter for the Edelbrock Carb but do I need a special bracket to use with the Lokar Kickdown Wire.
Thanks a lot!!!

You can always kick it down with your shifter for one.
The original rod should be cheaper if only you were in the USA. Given your location, the Lokar is probably a better solution. I don't know about an Edelbrock adapter...

Are you going for originality?

Lokar can get expensive too, I just needed a throttle cable and was looking at theirs and then they're like "well then you need an adapter for a 351w and to buy our cable blah blah" so be careful if you buy the lokar you might need to get a bunch of "not included" equipment. But a kickdown cable shouldn't be as bad as a throttle, who knows though.

Thanks!
I think I will go for the original rod even if I have to change it some because of the Edelbrock carb. I will keep on looking on the internet for one. Please, let me know if you find one out there. Thanks a lot!

I have an edelbrock carb with my kickdown and it works fine. You have to get the right adapter anyway for the throttle and that covers the kickdown anyway. So once you get the adaptor for a mustang/351 then it'll work real easily, just slides on.

Smile Timing Pointer 351w -69

Tkanks!! Appreciate it.
Can you help me out here with one more question? I am looking for a timing pointer but
I dont know if I can use this.

http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb.dll?parta~partsort

My water pump inlet is on the pass. side and I suppose the timing pointer should be on the driver side. I know they switched side late 1969 or 1970 but I dont know if all small block engines use this pointer.
