Default hinges?

Just kicking around the idea of rebuilding my door hinges since the kits are not expensive.

Wondering if anyone has done this and how hard it is?

My drivers side in particular...it seems the bushings are worn out and the door closes much better if you lift up some on the door when you are closing it. Seems like my old '80 Trans Am years ago had the same problem that seems common to any two door cars with the longer doors.

I am guessing you can remove the hinges one at a time, repair and put them back on without taking half the car apart?

I have honestly never looked at them that close but need a project for this weekend and considering buying the parts local so that they will be here long before Friday.

Well, I had a 79 camaro and rebuilt the hinges on that. It was pretty easy and took a few hours to do both doors.

I think I am going to give it a go this weekend.

My only reservation is I have never taken the door hinges off and wasn't sure if I unbolted them would they just bolt right back....not certain if there is a nut holding the bolts on the other side, etc. Guess worst case is you would have to take the front fender off but would rather not have to do that personally. On the door side of the hinge I have taken that apart so many times I can do it in a couple minutes if I were half asleep.

What I may do is try one side this weekend and if it works out try the other side next weekend.

Thinking that I will probably clean them up and spray them with a quick coat of paint in addition to replacing the parts that come in the kits even though that might take a bit longer due to drying time, etc.

Mine are original and while some repos are ok, I have come across numerous parts that the repos suck compared to original and they just don't fit as well.

I just ordered a kit so I will let you know how it goes.

Debating doing the project this weekend however. The weather looks like it is going to be really nice and would hate to have the car off the road when the forecast is for sun with no clouds :-)

I might be able to get the one side done in an evening but with drying time for painting, etc...probably not.

My driver's side is a lot worse then the other so planning on trying the one side first to see how that goes and then catch the passenger side later since I don't use that door very much.
