Default Repro doors and deck lid.....

It looks like I am going to have to buy doors and a deck lid for my 66 now. I just keep finding bad spots! By spots I mean the bottoms of the doors in the inside are pretty much gone. Amazing what you can find just by scraping a little old paint away.

How do the aftermarket doors fit? Are they pretty close to original?? If not, what kind of work will I need to do to them? Same with the deck lid.

Thanks, Jeff

Check out this post from jaw66.

He made a formed patch for the bottom of his door. I don't think it took it too long. There is a link in the post to a photobucket account where he has pictures. To me, original is always better than repro. I think it fits better. I say give fixing it a try and if that does not work, then look into the repros.

I've got repop doors on mine and they stink. The metal is lighter and the seams don't line up with the fender

Find a Dynacorn dealer, their parts are at least as good as OEM. If you have a fastback, I have a trunk lid that is brand new. I am using a fiberglass one.

Good choice in fixing the original doors. While the passengers door on ours was fine the drivers door was riddled with about 30 very small pinhole along the bottom. I cleaned the door inside and out to bare metal, welded up each hole and ground each down smooth. I finished it by applying 2 coats of POR-15 both in/outside and hit it with epoxy primer afterwards. Can't see any of the weld spots and looks great now. Doing the inside is/was a real pain in the *** but quite important to get cleaned up.

Looks nice. I am sure you will thank yourself when you reinstall the doors and they actually fit. I'll bet you would have spent more time working with the repops than the originals.

i bought new doors cause mine were just like the OP's, rusted completely gone on the bottom inside.

for me, it was WAY easier to get new ones and do a little bondo work, rather than stripping my old door, cleaning the inside, then patching, then bondo anyways...
