Negative, 2.80/3.00 was extremely common on both manual (3 and 4sp) and automatic cars, far more common than any lower ratios which had to be special ordered. My 3sp car had 2.80's in it.

Maybe so, but I still say that the only way to know for sure is to expend a little bit of time and energy to raise the car and check it.
