Default 68 Original Wheel Options

Struggling some with wheel choices for our 68 convertible. We are currently redoing the interior, it was original and in need of some rehab. We are keeping all original colors for seats, carpet etc. Car was painted a few years ago and is original color. I say all this to say, I'm struggling with the wheels and whether or not to stay true to 68 oem specs. It had standard steel with hubcaps. I want to do something a little different.

I thought about turning it into a sprint package and getting styled steel but I am not excited about 14 inch wheels and tires. I know you can get Magnum 500's in 15 inch, can you get styled steel in 15 inch?

What wheel options were actually available in 68?

thanks for the help.....

I realize I rambled a lot in my note, it was late. I really would like to know what wheels were available as options in 68. I know 'Styled Steel' were, how about the Magnum 500's?

I liked the Cragar SS back in the day (early 80's) but I'm looking for something that looks a little more OEM/stock. I would really like to do 68 Styled Steel but I only think you can get those in 14". I'd really like to go 15" or 16". Any and all suggestions with pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Retro 77 I believe you are right, I stopped by Harris Mustang today and they told me they were not available on 68's.

when my dad bough a 68 coupe w/ deluxe interior the spare was an old magnum 500 rim and the wheels on the car were cragar's I believe. This led me to believe that the 500's were an option, but I guess I could be wrong

The only reason I know is because I was just looking at an ad for rims in the back of Mustang Monthly for the Magnum 500's. I too am looking for something OG looking but in a more performance size. I am thinking of these in 17":

Also if you go 16 inch, look for tires in that range before you buy. I understand that 16" has a limited selection of performance tires. But if you want just standard cruising tires, they are readily available.

the ss wheels were avail in painted or chrome but only in 14". cragars make it look like you're still living in the 80's, so if you go that route, get some air shocks and parachute pants with 'em!! the wheels above my post are really cool, as are torq-thrust D's. for the price though, you cant beat Magnum 500's. They're "stock enough" (but not a factory option for the '68) and look great. finding a used set is easy and relatively cheap.
