One mirror or missing one?
This is something that I have been wondering for a little while. I was wondering if some basic cars from the 60's only came with one side mirror on the driver side. I have seen a few mustangs with that case, actually a corvette or two and few others, has anybody else noticed this? Was I just seeing beaters or basic models that only came with one mirror because I know some basic models were stripped down from the factory because of level or options you could get, my first 65 had the seat belt delete option for a $21 credit.
A lot of cars in to the late 80s the passenger side mirror was a option. Most state laws say a rear view and a driver side mirror that is part why the passenger wasn't standard they can charge more for it.I had a 87 chevy celeberty which was the euro sport the top of the line for the car it didn't have the passenger side mirror i added it tho.
By another, or buy a pair (that way they both are new looking), take the door panel off from the inside, line it up, drill some holes, screw it in and bamm...
I needed the extra safety of having two mirrors. I use mine to drive back and forth from work. Fastbacks have a big a blind spot on that right side.

Believe it or not way back in the "olden days" outside rear view mirrors were not required at all.
In fact, when I was in high school (graduated in 69) a friend of mine with a weak right eye had a restriction on his dirvers license which allowed him only to drive cars with a driver's side outside mirror (his "good" side).
One mirror instead of two was actually normal in the 60s. The rich folks got the second mirror.

My Grande originally came with sport mirrors, but standard 69 coupes only had the left mirror. HGC's 65 has no Pass mirror in his sig (above). Most cars didn't have a pass mirror unless it was a more expensive car like a Caddy or a Big Buick. These were the same cars that also had a vanity mirror on the pass sun visor.
Through the 1920s, cars had only one parking light: on the left.
Before that, cars had only one windshield wiper, the left; and it was manual.
And most cars except for some Porches and Jaguars only have one gas tank. Luckily our tanks are in the middle so we can pull up to the pump from either side.

Many cars of the thirties only had a door lock cylinder on the passenger's side because it was illegal to stand in the street when entering/exiting your car. You were supposed to go curbside, unlock the door and slide across the seat.
